The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking input from the community regarding the design of the replacement playground equipment at Box Canyon Park and Eastside Community Park. Take this opportunity to review the conceptual drawings for Box Canyon and Eastside Parks developed from community input expressed at the April 16 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting and from a survey conducted by a local resident from those particular communities. You can then vote on which conceptual drawing you prefer. The drawings are focusing only on playground equipment at this time. Additional investigative work is being done by our Landscape Architect and City staff to assess the possibility of incorporating a water feature in the park.
Drawings can be viewed on the City’s website at:

The Deadline to Vote is Sunday, May 10, 2009.

A dog park has been on the agenda for quite sometime without any conclusion.
May I have an up-date on its progress.
I advanced the idea of Doggie Play Lot like the City of Dana Point has installed. They are placed in existing parks and consist of a chain link fence and possibly some benches. They were an instant hit in Dana Point for a very low cost. I was able to get the consensus of the Council to send it to the Parks and Recreation Commission for review.
Is there anything we can do to help the dog park idea moving any faster?
I have asked staff to look into Doggie playlots. A low cost solution to this idea. It is modeled on parks in Dana Point. You identify an area in an existing park, put a chain link fence up and open the new park. It is wildly successful in that community and I think it would be a great amenity for our community also. We are waiting for the idea to be presented to the Parks and recreation Department and then back to Council. You could write to all Council members via the City website to encourage support for the idea.
