Anaheim, CA 92805

Purpose of the Meeting:

The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) has received an application for a Permit to Construct and to Operate and the California Energy Commission (CEC) has received a related Application for Certification (07-AFC-9) from the Southern California Public Power Authority for a new power plant to be located at 3071 E. Miraloma Avenue in the city of Anaheim. The AQMD is the air pollution control agency for all of Orange County and parts of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernadino Counties. Anyone wishing to install or change equipment that could be a source of air pollution within this region must first obtain a permit from the AQMD. The CEC is the primary licensing agency with exclusive jurisdiction to license new power plants which generate electricity of 50 Mega Watts (MW) or more. Each MW of electricity is enough to provide power for ahout 700 households.

The AQMD and CEC will conduct a joint public meeting to discuss the air quality. greenhouse gases, and public health issues related to the construction and operation of this newly proposed power plant. The purpose of this meeting is to provide an opportunity for the general public and interested parties to provide comments and seek general information regarding construction and operation of the proposed new power plant.

The CEC will be holding a preliminary staff assessment workshop starting at 1:00 p.m. on the same day and at the same location to discuss the overall licensing of this project. The air quality, greenhouse gases, and public health discussions will be discussed at the joint public meeting starting at 5:30 p.m.

Project Description/Background:

The Canyon Power Plant Project will burn natural gas to produce electricity and consists of four simple cycle combustion turbine generators each rated at about 50 MW with a total net generating capacity of 200 MW. The project is designed to provide power during emergencies or peak demand periods to meet the electrical consumption needs of the city of Anaheim. This project will use the bcst available technology for control of air pollution.

Questions:

All interested parties are encouraged to attend this public meeting. If you have any questions regarding this meeting from AQMD, please contact John Yee at (909) 396-2531 (email: jyce@aqmd.gov). For any questions from CEC about their staff workshop, please contact-Eric Solorio at (916) 651-0966 (email: esolorio@energy.state.ca.us).
