The class of 2013 of the Yorba Linda chapter of National Charity League is hosting the 17th annual Fashion Show, Luncheon, and Auction: “California Girls…Dreamin’ of a Cure” for the benefit of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  The Fashion Show will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Disneyland Hotel and will include a silent auction, opportunity drawings, surprise packages and a grand-prize drawing.  The public is welcome and is encouraged to attend. Tickets are $75 which includes parking, and must be purchased prior to the event.

National Charity League, Inc (NCL) is a non-profit national organization of mothers and daughters dedicated to serving their communities and fostering the mother-daughter relationship.  The mothers and daughters participate in a six-year program (grades seven through twelve), working together as they assist various local philanthropies, participate in educational and leadership activities, and attend a variety of cultural events.  The Yorba Linda chapter (the Chapter) was founded in 1990 and consists of Yorba Linda residents and students attending schools in the Placentia-Yorba Linda School District.

Each year, the mothers and daughters from the Chapter’s junior class host a fashion show and fundraiser to benefit one of the many philanthropies with which the Chapter works.  This year, the class has chosen the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) as the beneficiary in hopes of making a difference in the lives of those afflicted by this life-threatening disease.  CFF is the world’s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis.  A nonprofit, donor-supported organization, CFF does not receive any federal funding for its work.  The Foundation’s focus is to support the development of new drugs, improve the quality of life for those with CF, and ultimately to find a cure.

NCL’s fashion show will be produced by James Campbell Productions, a top-tier, Los Angeles-based fashion show production company.  The models will be the 23 girls of the NCL Class of 2013, all juniors at local high schools including Yorba Linda High School, El Dorado High School, Esperanza High School, Lutheran High School of Orange County, Rosary High School, Santa Margarita Catholic High School, and Whittier Christian High School.

THIS EVENT IS THE KING OF YORBA LINDA HOLD-EM TOURNAMENTS!

A MAXIMUM OF 25 TEAMS (200 PLAYERS) WILL PARTICIPATE.

Teams of 8 players make a $320 donation to participate.  Pre-registration bonus: for a $400 donation, your team receives 8 entries, 8 re-buys, and 8 drink tickets; over a $500 value.  Your team members will concurrently compete as a team and as individuals.  Businesses, Neighborhood teams, sports coaches, parents, or any group of 8 people are welcome to attend.  Because of the growth of the event, pre-payment and pre-registration are critical.  You may change your team members the evening of the tournament.

A pizza dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m., instruction at 6:45, and play will begin at 7:00.  Beer, wine and sodas will be available for purchase.  Each player will be issued $500 in chips.  Bankrupt players will be allowed unlimited $20 re-buys during early play.  All players will be allowed one add-on before re-buy conclusion.  Play will continue until one player remains, about Midnight.  Trophies will be awarded to the final 9 individuals, and the last team to have 3 players remaining in the game.  Players need not be experienced.  Can you imagine being the final player in the game?  Can you imagine eliminating 199 players?  Can you imagine holding over $150,000 in chips?

While players cannot directly profit in any way from play, charitable donations in their name by YL Sunrise Rotary is permitted. Therefore, contributions will be made to a 501(c)(3) charity or local non-profit group as follows:

1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, Individual– $100, $75, and $50 respectively

The Second Annual Women’s Conference is on Saturday, March 27, 2010 and the keynote speaker is Lisa Ling. Lisa is probably best known for her roles as former co-host of The View television show, current host of National Geographic Explorer and special correspondent for The Oprah Winfrey Show, which has featured many of Ling’s investigative pieces, including a report on North Korea. This year’s breakout seminars offer women a variety of topics from strategizing for your retirement, to stress management, to a woman’s guide to nutrition.
